Last week at our annual end-of-year faculty meeting and meal, the school district recognized all of the people who were retiring this summer. Pattie Lennon, Sandi Watson, Richard Watson, Dwayne Wren, and Kathy Wren were all given a rocking chair by the school district. Combined, the retirees had a total of nearly 150 years of service teaching and working in the school system. Congratulations to each of the retirees. I hope they all have a great retirement!

Thursday night was junior high graduation. Mrs. Glover did a very nice job of delivering the address to the students and parents. It was nice to see those young ladies and gentlemen dressed up and ready to make their exit from junior high to start high school next year.

Friday was kindergarten graduation. It was a little sad just knowing that this would be Mrs. Lennon’s last class to teach. I remember several things from my days in kindergarten with Mrs. Lennon as my teacher. It was a fun time, but it was also very educational. It built the foundation for many more years of learning at Miller Grove school. During graduation, the students led the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States flag and the Texas flag, sang a song and walked across the stage to accept their diplomas.

High school graduation was a little lengthy, but that is pretty traditional at Miller Grove. Besides the salutatory and valedictory addresses and Mr. Watson’s speech to the graduates, each person receiving scholarships was recognized before the audience, and the students who were going into the military were introduced to everyone. Before Mr. Watson gave his speech he was kind enough to recognize each of the people who were retiring and leaving the district this year. Then, the slideshow played while students passed out roses to their loved ones. The commencement exercises concluded after seniors accepted their diplomas and, as a group, threw their caps up in the air.

Happy birthday this week to Pete Adams on Jun. 9, Joyce (May) Cox on Jun. 11 and Jenny (Oler) Holland on Jun. 15.

Happy 31st anniversary to Stevie and Cheri Tipps on Jun. 12.

Started my new job at Farmer’s Electric Coop this week. Things are going well and I have enjoyed it so far! I’m hoping the rest of my career there will be this enjoyable.
