Is it summer or winter? That’s the question I keep asking myself. I’m getting a little confused. It seems like each time we get some nice weather and we just start thinking that warm weather is here to stay, we get another blast from a cool front. I’m sure this is wreaking havoc with people’s gardens. I know Jim Potts told me that they had to re-plant their tomatoes already. Hopefully spring is here to stay; heck, it’s almost May.

Congratulations to Katelyn McCreight, who is state-bound in golf! This is the second year she has advanced to the state meet. Katelyn won the title of first place for Class 1A at the recent regional golf meet in Nacogdoches. This past week, she signed to play golf for Texas A&M University-Commerce where she was also accepted into the honors program that they have. Katelyn’s next stop is the state golf tournament in Austin.

The Miller Grove United Methodist Church installed a new church sign last week. It looks really good so far, but they are not finished. They are supposed to put stone around the base of the sign to dress it out properly. The project should be finished by the first of May.

Just a reminder that Miller Grove Cemetery’s “First Saturday” memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, May 4. The morning service will begin at 10:30 a.m. with lunch to follow and singing in the afternoon. We have a good line-up of folks for this year’s program. The master of ceremonies will be Lisa (Renshaw) Oler, preacher will be James Waskom, song leader will be Woody Garmon, pianist will be Garth Looney and special music will be from the Garmon family.

This week at school the main agenda is state testing. Something the faculty and students dread. It is so hard to believe that Monday marks the beginning of the last six weeks of school! The year has really flown by.

Happy birthday this week to Virgil McEnturff on April 21; Niltz Blanton, Derick Petty and my niece, Savanna Darrow, on April 25; and Mary Lou (Ferguson) Akins on April 26. Last week I neglected to mention a special birthday. Sissy Poteet's daughter, little Abella Grace, celebrated her first birthday on April 17. Happy birthday, Miss Abella!

As you travel the highways and byways don’t forget that all roads lead back home and back to Miller Grove. Please send me any newsworthy information. My email address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
