We have had another community member to pass away this week. Mrs. Maymie Ethel (English) Burns, widow of the late Hugh Corder Burns, passed away Sunday at
Briarcliff Health Center of Greenville. Maymie was born in Rains County on Aug. 30, 1908, to Edgar and Mary (Strickland) English. She was a teacher, having taught at Cody and several other small schools before being hired to teach at Houston Elementary School in Greenville, from which she retired after 16 years of service. Maymie and “Cord” were married Dec. 31, 1929. Cord was also a teacher and coach. Maymie was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Raymond, J.W., Vollie, Noble and James English; and one grandson, Blake Burns. Mrs. Burns is survived by her daughter, Kay Carol Pemberton; her son, H.C. Burns of Miller Grove; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Tuesday, Mar. 5, at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home with interment in Miller Grove Cemetery.
Zach Crispin is the proud father of Delighla Annabell Lee Crispin. She weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long. Delighla was born on Friday, Mar. 1.
