This week’s biggest news was the school’s homecoming. The basketball girls did very well, I thought. They only lost to Fruitvale by about six points. I was very proud of the effort they put
forth. The varsity boys won by about six points. I believe that will put the boys in first place in district. Way to go, boys!
Before the girls game, Kelsey Steele and her parents, Chris and Kathy Steele, were recognized. Kelsey was the only senior to play basketball this year. After the girls game, the Basketball Beau and Sweetheart were announced. Kelsey Steele and Patrick Covington received plaques for the basketball-peer-voted honors.
After the conclusion of the boys game was the homecoming court exercises. After the introduction of 2012 Homecoming King and Queen Colten Baylus and Holly Miller, I spoke a few words about each of the court members and what their future plans were. Then, it was my pleasure to announce the winners: second runners-up were Patrick Covington and Alzbeta Kudelkova, first runners-up were Caleb Schones and Ashley Claxton, and Homecoming King Ryan Dougan and Queen Kelsey Steele. Other court members were Katelyn McCreight, Shelbi Potts, Nathan George and Connor Hall. Each of these students are truly winners just to be nominated onto the 2013 Homecoming Court. Congratulations to each of them.
Happy birthday this week to Lance Mabe on Feb. 4, Stephen Sparks on Feb. 6, Linda Bailey and Jesse Ballentine on Feb. 8 and Clay Smith on Feb. 9.
Happy fifth anniversary to my brother and sister-in-law, Bradley and Madison Darrow, on Feb. 9. Happy anniversary to Donna and Leon Asbill Jr. on Feb. 6.
