I think the most exciting news in quite some time (as of Monday) is the recent rains we have gotten! We really needed them and were blessed to get some run-off so that the pools have filled up again.
It seems that this past week has been very hard for the Renshaw family with the death of Geral- dine (Fatheree) “Jerry” Renshaw and Wanda (Hatcher) Renshaw. I didn’t really know Jerry Ren- shaw. She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease several years ago and passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, while in a nursing facility in Grand Saline. At one time, Jerry and Wanda were sisters-in-law (their husbands being brothers).
Wanda (Hatcher) Renshaw passed away Friday, Jan. 11, at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. She was born Wanda Lynn Hatcher on Nov. 6, 1932, to two long-time Miller Grove residents, Dock and Trudy Hatcher. Mr. and Mrs. Hatcher were teachers at Miller Grove School for many years and just about everyone knew the Hatcher family. They moved to Miller Grove from the East Texas town of Avinger, where Wanda was born. She graduated as salutatorian of the MGHS senior class of 1949. Wanda married Truman Lee Renshaw on Nov. 23, 1950, in our community.
I have seen several pictures of Wanda when she was a young lady and it’s no wonder Truman fell in love with her ... she was very beautiful and has always had a sweet disposition. In later years, Wanda favored her mother more and more each time I would see her. I remember Mrs. Hatcher very well from when I was a young child, after her retirement. In recent years, Wanda and Truman enjoyed traveling. They took many trips with my aunt and uncle (Betty and Mack Phillips). They always had a good time together traveling across the country or just going to the lake for a get-away. I enjoyed visiting with Wanda when I would see her out and about. In fact, I spoke with her in Wal-Mart about two weeks ago. I remembered thinking that day how nice she looked and how I thought her health must have been improving.
Her funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 13, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Sulphur Springs. Interment followed in Miller Grove Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, two daughters, one son, one sister (Margaret Ann Marable), and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles Wesley Hatcher in 2011.
Happy birthday this week to Miranda Frobish, Ashley (Blackstead) Oler and Lane Lennon on Jan. 13; Misty Briggs and Charleigh Smith on Jan. 16; Clark May, Ronnie McEnturff and Dalyn (Petty) Beck on Jan. 17; and Hope Garrett and Melanie (Lynn) Clem on Jan. 19.
As you travel the highways and byways don’t
forget that all roads lead back home and back to Miller Grove. Please send me any newsworthy information. My email address is brd_2@hot- mail.com.
