My thoughts and prayers are with the family of sweet little Carson Lee Vaughan, 2-year-old-son of Ryan Vaughan and Brittany Johnston, who passed away on Oct. 12. Funeral services for Carson were held Monday, Oct. 15, at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel. Interment took place in Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Cumby. I have known both Ryan and Brittany for many years. Ryan is a distant cousin of mine and Brittany graduated from Miller Grove School in 2007.

Brookelyn Purser has been a local celebrity lately. The 9-year-old recently shaved her head in honor of breast cancer patients everywhere. Her picture and an article about her, as well as other students who had pink extensions in their hair, was on the front page of the Sulphur Springs News-Telegram lately.

Mark your calendars and make plans to attend the school’s annual Fall Carnival this Friday night. Stew and chili will be served in the cafeteria starting at 5 p.m. Booths in the old gym will open at 6 p.m. And, the night will con- clude with bingo at 8 p.m. in the cafeteria. Please come out and support our students. This is our single biggest money making event of the year. The PTO’s proceeds come from the stew and chili as well as the bingo games, while the funds raised from the booths will go toward individual classes.

This Saturday Faye Tipps, Misty Briggs and I made a trip to Gun Barrel City. We went to see our cousin, J.W. Melton, in a small town called “Log Cabin” which is on Cedar Creek Lake, near Gun Barrel City. We had a good visit with J.W., and on the way home stopped for supper at Chili’s.

On our trek going to Cedar Creek Lake, we stopped off and bought a couple of boxes of sweet potatoes near Canton. Yes, it’s already time to get your sweet potatoes! They were $14 per box where we stopped.

Another upcoming event at the school will be the fall dinner the- atre on Nov. 1. I will have more information about the perfor- mance and what food will be served in next week’s column.
