Did anyone get a chance to read about the Tele-Grammy awards that the News-Telegram conducted? These are fan-based awards that showcase the “best” Hopkins County businesses and individuals. This year the 6th annual Tele-Grammy’s were published in the July 28-29 edition of the News-Telegram, and Stacey’s Fish Fry was voted “Best Seafood” in Hopkins County. I thought that was a great honor for one of our only businesses in Miller Grove. Congratulations, Stacey!
Last week, I visited with cousins from Houston. We went out to eat several times while they were here. I think my favorite place that we ate was Babe’s in Garland. If you ever get a chance you need to eat there. It is a little expensive, but well worth it. They have some of the best home cooking that I know of.
Saturday, Faye and Austin Tipps and I met June Watson and Jean Benton for lunch in Greenville at Cracker Barrel. June and Jean were both doing well. For those of you who do not know these ladies, they both worked at Miller Grove School. June retired as the home economics teacher in 1999 and Jean was the school secretary, retiring in the mid-1980s.
Happy birthday this week to Virgie Johnson, Kent Renshaw and Rodney Lennon on July 30; Bailey Penny on Aug. 1; and C.L. “Butch” Hall and Abi Darrow on Aug. 4.
Happy anniversary to Steve and Cathy Rhodes on July 29. This was their 29th anniversary. Happy 54th anniversary to Jerry and Betty McGowan on Aug. 1 and to my uncle and aunt, Kenneth and Mary (Millsap) Smith, who are also celebrating 54 years of marriage on Aug. 2.
As you travel the highways and byways don’t forget that all roads lead back home and back to Miller Grove. Please send me any newsworthy information. My email address is
