News in the community is slow this week except for the usual birthdays and wedding anniversaries. The little bit of rain from last week was nice while it lasted, but it has quickly evaporated and the land looks as parched as it did before the showers came through the area.
I received word last week from the Texas Historical Commission that the school’s historical marker was supposed to be shipped Thursday, July 12. Maybe the school will be able to have it installed before the first day of classes.
The Mabe family added a new member this week. Kallie Ann Mabe was born to Lance and Kelly (House) Mabe on Friday, July 13, 2012. She weighed 9 pounds, 2 ounces. This time Friday the 13th turned out to be a good day, for the Mabes anyway. Kallie’s paternal grandparents are Larry and Lana (Weaver) Mabe of Greenview. She was also welcomed into the world by aunt Vicki (Mabe) Lee and uncle Eric Mabe, along with several cousins and friends.
Please remember James and Kayla Weaver in your prayers. As I understand it, James was having some numbness in his legs a few days ago, and when he went to the hospital they diagnosed him with multiple sclerosis. If you know James you know that he is a good person. I believe he is still in the hospital, so please remember the Weaver family.
Happy birthday to Sherry Darrow, Sandra Garrett, Christian (Daugherty) O’Neal and Barry “Moon” Smith on July 15; Colby Hoover on July 16; Paula (Smith) Cummings on July 17; Joe Scott and Bo Smith on July 20; and Dustee Daugherty on Jul. 21.
Happy 53rd anniversary to my aunt and uncle, Mack and Betty Phillips, on July 18.
