Hot, hot, hot. Those are the only three words I can think of to describe the weather last week. Well, I thought of one more — dry. We need rain so badly. It isn’t as bad as last summer, but it won’t take long to get there if we don’t get some rain soon. There was a little shower Sunday afternoon but not enough to even wet the ground.

I hated to hear about the passing of Betty (Johnson) Horne on June 28. She was the daughter of Robert and Thelma (Anderson) Johnson. I don’t believe that I have ever met Betty but I have met her sisters, Norma and Robbie.

Kevin and Michelle Tipps found out this week that they are going to be having a little girl. Stevie and Cheri are proud to be having a girl in the family!

Green Weaver was honored as a Republic of Texas veteran at the annual Greenview Cemetery Memorial Day service this past Saturday. A gold medallion was placed on Mr. Weaver’s grave by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas and local descendants Jan (Weaver) Kimmell and Sandi (Weaver) Boyd.

H.C. and Mary Lou Akins enjoyed a family gathering Saturday afternoon at their daughter’s house in honor of H.C.’s 91st birthday. I heard that everyone had a good time and there were about 23 family members who were able to be on hand to celebrate H.C.’s special birthday.

Happy birthday this week to Brandon Wren and Keith Lee on July 4; Octave Woods, Peggy Clem and Brenda Watson McCleskey on July 5; Cathy Rhodes and Jena Burns on July 6; and Oma Lea (Garrett) Nelson and Ernie Weaver on July 7.

You know, I mess up now and then on the MG news, so I wanted to correct something from last weeks’ column (June 27). I accidentally said that Bob and Darlene had celebrated their anniversary the weekend before (June 23-24) last week’s column. Sorry about that, Bob and Darlene. That’s what I get for not writing things down and trying to go by memory!

I hope everyone enjoyed the 4th of July. I didn’t have any plans but I hope that those of you who did have plans were safe in whatever you decided to do to celebrate the holiday.

As you travel the highways and byways, don’t forget that all roads lead home and back to Miller Grove. Please send me any newsworthy information. My e-mail address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
