The dog days of summer are here! As I sit here typing this week’s news column the outdoor thermometer is steadily climbing. Triple digits are never fun. But we are basically in July, so what should I expect for this time of year?

News is somewhat slow this week. The basketball camps are completed for the summer and the basketball “league games” are also wrapping up this week.

Tuesday I ran over to Side Kick’s restaurant in Emory to pick up lunch for a couple of us working at school and I saw Rodney Lennon, H.C. Burns, and H.C.’s grandson, Trent. They had a good chicken fried chicken special on the menu that day.

Coach Jenkins is selling fireworks on the corner of FM 275 and FM 1567 at Miller Grove Farm Supply, from now until July 4. I’m sure he’ll make you a good deal if you stop by.

I guess the most exciting thing going on this week is the birthday list. Happy birthday this week to Bonny (Millsap) Garrett on June 24; Shannon (Darrow) Hood, Sara (Garmon) Price and Marsha (Garmon) Potts on June 25; Cheryl (Garmon) Stephens on June 27; Kacie Potts on June 28; Chrysteen (Mabe) Watts on June 29; and H.C. Akins and Jason Shackelford on June 30.

Tommie Lynn and Peggy Clem celebrated 51 years of marriage on June 24. Boy, do I feel sorry for Peggy! Just joking Tommie Lynn! Happy 40th anniversary to Bob and Darlene Flecker this past weekend! So many folks don’t even make it to their fourth anniversary these days. Congratulations to both of you! Darin and Leasa Petty will also have an upcoming anniversary. Saturday will be their 15th anniversary.

As you travel the highways and byways, don’t forget that all roads lead home and back to Miller Grove. Please send me any newsworthy information. My e-mail address is
