I guess this week is a little bit slower as far as news in the community goes. We are already making plans for this year’s End of School Stew which will be held on Friday, May 25.
Stew will be served for lunch, and after lunch we will hold the second annual Faculty Vs. Seniors Softball Game. That night there will be alumni basketball games in the new gym. Men who are interested in playing need to talk to Coach Gary Billingsley, and ladies who want to be on a team need to see Sara (Garmon) Price.
Friday will be the big FFA Stew & Auction. I hope to see lots of you there. Stew will be served from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the auction begins at 7 p.m. As a community, I guess we have more stews than anyone else around, but we have had them for a long time and I haven’t heard any complaints yet!
Funeral services for Oney Artimus Clifton were held Monday at Miller Grove United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. with burial following in Miller Grove Cemetery. “Art” Clifton was born in Miller Grove on Sep. 17, 1917, the son of John Frank Clifton and Geona (Pippin) Clifton. Mr. Clifton passed away Wednesday, April 11, 2012, in Dallas. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha Ladonia (Dering) Clifton, on Feb. 26, 2009; and a daughter, Velina (Clifton) Barnhart; and one brother, Ashley Clifton. He is survived by one son, Jerry Clifton.
Miller Grove High School has experienced a first this week. We had a junior, Katelyn McCreight, to advance to the state playoffs in golf! Way to go Katelyn!
Tuesday afternoon the Miller Grove baseball boys played Honey Grove High School. We won the game 7 to 3. Even though we had several errors, the boys did a great job fielding and several batters ended up getting good hits. The next game is scheduled for this Friday at Miller Grove. We will play Yantis.
