Well friends, this cooler weather beats the heat that we were having back in August and September. Those triple digits were tough, even for us young folks!
School is progressing and we are all looking forward to the Thanksgiving break that will be coming up in a few weeks.
Basketball has begun. There were a few scrimmage ball games Tuesday afternoon at Miller Grove. The teams only played for about 15 minutes each. Thursday night will be a junior high ball game starting at 5 p.m. at Miller Grove.
Happy birthday to Robin (Garrett) Middleton and Riley Hasten (7 years old!) on Oct. 30, Scott Wren on Oct. 31, Jeramie Burns on Nov. 1, Abby Tipps on Nov. 3 and Peggie Weatherly on Nov. 5.
The Fall Carnival was a success, as always. The students and PTO made quite a bit of money off of the raffle ticket sales, carnival booths, stew/chili, and Bingo. The PTO made somewhere in the vicinity of $5,000 and the classes (combined) made around $3,500. A big thank you goes out to the community and all of the local businesses for their support.
Mrs. Kim Irby recently attended the annual Marine Ball to see her son, Derick Johnson, receive several awards. He is a recruiter for the Marine Corps out of Texarkana and has been quite successful this year. Mrs. Irby said that the ball and banquet were very nice and she had an enjoyable time with her son and daughter-in-law.
If anyone would like to order one of the Miller Grove School history books, please come by the high school office and pick up an order form or go to the school’s website (www.mgisd. net) and print a copy. They are $30 each. If you would like for them to be mailed, please add an additional $5. Hopefully, they will be ready for delivery near the Christmas holidays.
