MILLER GROVE NEWS Sept. 21, 2011

E-mail Print PDF

This week and last week have been quite busy for me, and I haven’t had very much time to scrape up information for the Miller Grove News column.

The storms Sunday night were pretty bad in some places. Down in the bottoms at Murray Williams’ place there were quite a few trees blown down. I even heard that TxDOT had to come out for a few hours and push the trees off of the road with their equipment. Lightning struck some of the telephones at school and hit the radio receiver where the school gets their Internet signal. Steve Johnson had a tree in his yard to fall on his house. I think the south end of the community saw more damaging winds than the north side. It was awfully nice, though, to get the rain.

Little Dribblers fall league has been very active lately. Both Miller Grove gym parking lots were full of cars Tuesday night for the games.

Happy birthday to Larry Mabe, Dannie Garrett and Mark Garrett on Sept. 20; Tyler Darrow on Sept. 22; and Jerald Wren on Sept. 24.

I have two sets of cousins with anniversaries this week. Happy 49th anniversary to Johnny and Mary Lynn Ferguson of Miller Grove on Sept. 22. Happy 34th anniversary to Paul and Bonny Garrett of Sulphur Springs on Sept. 24.

This weekend I had planned a surprise 90th birthday reception for my grandmother, Lela Darrow, but the plans had to be postponed because she ended up having an unexpected surgery Monday evening. She had blood clots preventing circulation in her left leg. After a successful surgery, circulation returned to her leg and she is recovering in ICU. If it is possible we will reschedule her reception for a later date. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers that she continues to recover and returns to having mobility in her leg.

While I was with my grandmother Tuesday I saw Tommie Clem in the ICU. I didn’t get to speak to him, but I’m sure he would appreciate your prayers.

As you travel the highways and byways don’t forget that all roads lead home and back to Miller Grove. Please send me any newsworthy information. My e-mail address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
