This week’s news will be short because I (and everyone else at school) have been pretty busy trying to get things ready for the kids to come back to school on Monday. It seems like it doesn’t matter how much you work, there is always something else to get done before the first day.

Saturday, Faye Tipps and I went to Mesquite and met June Watson and Jean Benton for lunch at the Black Eyed Pea restaurant. The meal was good but the peach fried pies were the best of all!

My brother, Bradley, had his gall bladder removed Tuesday. He didn’t have any gallstones, but his gall bladder wasn’t functioning properly. He should begin to feel much better in the next couple of weeks.

Geneva Stripling has been in the hospital but is doing much better now.

Happy Birthday to Jerry McGowan on Aug. 14, D.J. Spencer on Aug. 15, and Kathy Wren on Aug. 20.

Remember, Meet the Teacher Night will be Thursday, Aug. 18, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

As you travel the highways and byways, don’t forget that all roads lead home and back to Miller Grove. Please send me any newsworthy information. My e-mail address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
