News is slow again this week in The Grove. We received a light shower of rain the other day, but not enough to help any of this drought.

Happy birthday to Paul Garrett Jr. on July 27; Julie Smith on July 28; and Kent Renshaw, Virgie Johnson and Rodney Lennon on July 30.

Happy 65th Wedding Anniversary to Lewis and Bobbie Woodard on July 27. Happy 28th Anniversary to Steve and Cathy Rhodes on July 29.

I saw H.C. and Mary Lou Akins Monday at the Buffalo Grill in Lone Oak. They were eating lunch and I was there to pick up a to-go order.

Saturday morning the Miller Grove Cemetery board of trustees had a meeting. The finance committee has purchased 11 bonds with a face value of $5,000 each. Hopefully, the investment will yield a little more interest than the bank.

Remember Miller Grove residents, Hopkins County is under a burn ban. If you ever want to know if we are under the ban or not, look at the fire station as you pass by on FM 275. They have a red flag flying to indicating that the county is under the ban.

The Miller Grove Alumni Association will be mailing the first newsletters and membership cards this week. If you haven’t signed up and paid your dues it would be a great time to take care of that.

As you travel the highways and byways don’t forget that all roads lead back home and back to Miller Grove. Please send me any newsworthy information. My email address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
