Driving down FM 275 the other day, I noticed that the highway department had put up the “Adopt a Highway” sign for Miller Grove Student Council. They have adopted a stretch of highway on FM 275 that runs in front of the school. Mrs. Heather Morgan, junior high student council sponsor, told me that they were going to adopt a portion of the road several months ago.
I went to eat at “Sweet Thangs” in Cumby with Faye Tipps on Tuesday. We had a really good turkey and dressing lunch. While we were there we saw several folks that we knew. Bro. Wayne Darty and his wife were there. I also saw Heath and Sheena McCraw and their family. I was surprised when I looked up and saw Dana Reeves and his children. They used to live between Miller Grove and Brashear, and his wife, Michelle, taught at Miller Grove for several years. They are now living in Mount Vernon.
Happy birthday to Paula Cummings and William Sallee on July 17, Ken Haywood on July 19, and Sue Ann Sparks on July 22.
Happy 52nd Wedding Anniversary to my aunt and uncle, Betty and Mack Phillips of the South Liberty community, on July 18.
I didn’t have very much time this week to dig up any information for my Historical Note. Maybe I will have more time next week to find some sort of interesting, little-known historical fact about Miller Grove to include.
Thoughts are already beginning to turn to the start of a new school year. Summer vacation has just about slipped by us. The first day for students will be Aug. 22.
