Miller Grove News for June 15, 2011

E-mail Print PDF
You guessed it — with school out for the summer there isn’t very much news to report in our small community.

I went to Miller Grove Methodist Church Sunday with my grandmother. They were having a special service with recording artist Donnie Sumner in concert. The morning services were nice and they had a big dinner after the concert. Donnie performed there on Saturday night, too. I think the Saturday night crowd was better than the Sunday morning crowd. If you have never heard of Donnie Sumner, he has been on the Bill Gaither Homecoming series and has cut many of his own records. At one time he was also a backup singer for Elvis.

If you’re wanting to go out to eat and not travel very far, you need to run over to Lone Oak and eat at the Buffalo Grill. I have been several times lately. They have changed up their lunch specials and are offering quite a few different entrees and sides for $5.95 and $6.95 (depending on which meal you choose). The last time I went I ordered their chicken fried chicken breast and it was really good, fried golden and crispy, drowning in cream gravy.

Happy birthday to Jenny (Oler) Holland on June 15, and Kenny Scott and Micah Stotts on June 16. I missed a birthday a few days back. David Garrett celebrated his 86th birthday on June 2. I hope he had a good one!

Happy 44th anniversary to Carol and Billy Dunn on June 17. June 12 was Stevie and Cheri Tipps’ 29th anniversary. Congratulations to both of these couples.

Everyone remember that if you have any pictures of the school or activities that have gone on there throughout the year to please let me know. I would love to copy them for our school history book. And if you have any special memories that you would like to share I would love to hear them.

Also, if you went to Miller Grove School and haven’t paid dues to join the Alumni Association I would encourage you to do so. Membership dues are $25 for an individual or $40 for a couple, and in July we will mail out season passes to the home ball games. There will be 4 newsletters per year, and there are a few other perks to joining. The best part is that at next year’s graduation (hopefully), we will have generated enough money to be able to give out a few scholarships to deserving students. If you would like a membership form please get in contact with me, or look on the school’s website (www.mgisd.net).

As you travel the highways and byways, don’t forget that all roads lead home and back to Miller Grove. Please send me any newsworthy information. My e-mail address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
