Another week full of activities around “The Grove.” This week’s article includes a variety of news from our area. The cooler weather was a welcomed blessing this weekend. Let’s just hope it lasts well into the month of June.

First, another friendly reminder about this Friday’s activities at school. Kindergarten graduation and elementary’s year-end awards are scheduled to start at 9 a.m. I hope many of you will come and partake of the 72nd Annual End of School Stew. Beef and chicken stew will be served at lunch. The school has also ordered cake and ice cream for dessert at 1 p.m. The high school year-end awards will be after lunch, followed by a faculty vs. seniors softball game (if the weather cooperates). I have heard that there will be quite a lineup of former students to play in the alumni basketball games Friday night. They begin at 6 p.m. During the games there will be two memory books available for alumni, students and community members to sign for two of our teachers who are retiring this year. In case you didn’t know, the two teachers I am talking about are Mr. Larry Slatter and Mrs. Vicki Weaver. They have both served our district for many years. If you won’t be able to make it to the games you can still send any thoughts, memories or remarks of congratulations to me so that I can add it to their books. Just send me an e-mai,l or if you prefer to hand-write your message you can mail it to: Miller Grove ISD, Attn. Brandon Darrow, 7819 FM 275 south, Cumby, TX 75433. I hope to see you at some point during the day on Friday!

Katie Pleasant (MGISD teacher) told me that County Line Baptist Church will have a Mexican food luncheon on May 22. They are not charging for the meals, but will accept donation to raise money for the church’s youths to go to youth camp. Katie’s husband is the youth minister at County Line.

Faye Tipps and Evelyn Echeverio made a trip to Oklahoma Monday.

My grandmother’s broken arm is slowly healing from her fall back in March. She is taking physical therapy regularly and is beginning to make progress.

Happy birthday this week to Jesse Weaver on May 15; my aunt Betty Phillips on May 16; Dillon Tipps, Connie Briggs and Paul Garrett on May 19.

Happy 5th anniversary to Kevin and Michelle Tipps on May 20. Happy 16 anniversary to Christy and Scott Wren and 28th anniversary to Barry and Julie Smith, both on May 21.

As you travel the highways and byways, don’t forget that all roads lead home and back to Miller Grove. Please send me any newsworthy information. My e,mail address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
