I hope everyone has a great Easter holiday. It is so hard to imagine that one third of the year has already passed!

Plans are in full swing for this year’s Miller Grove Cemetery Memorial Day. Bro. Howard Strickland will deliver the message and Gary McGowan will be the master of ceremonies. Special music will be by Michelle Tipps. Community members who are 90 years young and above will be recognized, and a dedication service will be held for the historical marker. The first Saturday Memorial Day services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on May 7.

Happy birthday to Cory Glover on April 17, my Aunt Sally Millsap on April 18, and Zach Crispin on April 19.

Happy anniversary to Billy and Jean Wren on April 20. They were married in Piedmont, Va., 54 years ago.

Last week, foreign exchange student Rafaella Ramalho was very happy at the arrival of her parents. They came to visit with her from their home in Brazil. It isn’t every day that someone from South America comes to little old Miller Grove, Texas.

Thursday the FFA Chapter will have a banquet with barbecue and all of the trimmings. I will report more on the banquet next week.

Please make plans to participate in this year’s end-of-school stew. The date is set for May 20. We have quite a day planned. During the morning hours there will be kindergarten graduation and an elementary awards assembly. Then stew will be served for lunch. Anyone in the community is more than welcome to come by and get a big bowl of stew. After lunch there will be a junior high and high school awards assembly in the new gym followed by a faculty and student softball game. As far as I know, that night there will be three alumni basketball games. We really hope everyone will come out and enjoy the day. This is not only a day for the students, but a day for the community to celebrate the end of another successful school year. At some point cake and ice cream will be served to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the school. All proceeds will go to benefit the Miller Grove Alumni Association.

Saturday, April 30, will be the 6th annual Miller Grove Volunteer Fire Department Car Show on the high school’s parking lot. Food will be served, trophies will be awarded, and a good time will be had by everyone who participates. I know Brian Thomas and all of the other volunteers have been working hard to coordinate the event. They always do a great job! For more information call the fire department or visit their website at www.mgfdtexas.com.

As you travel the highways and byways, don’t forget that all roads lead home and back to Miller Grove. Please send me any newsworthy information. My e-mail address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
