Everywhere you turn you see signs of spring. Grass is starting to grow, trees are beginning to bud out, and you just feel like getting outside and working.
Last week I went with a couple of my cousins to the Dallas Arboretum. If you want to see plants and flowers, the arboretum is the place to go. It is a 66-acre botanical garden. Daffodils and tulips were at their peak when we were there. I’m not sure what flowers will be blooming next in their gardens. If you ever get a chance you should go. It is really something to see.
Sunday afternoon I went over to Faye Tipps’ house. It was nice to visit with her and her company. Kenneth Hall and Doethia Hoskinson had stopped by her house on their way back from eating lunch in Greenville. We all talked and laughed and had a good time that afternoon.
Mrs. Irby has just returned from seeing her son and his family in Arizona over spring break. She said she had a great time and really enjoyed getting to see her grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Steve Johnson also went on a spring break trip. They made a trek up to Washington state to visit his parents. Their trip was planned to be able to celebrate his father’s 90th birthday.
I haven’t received any updates on the condition of Brandy and Tyler Pence, who were in the ambulance wreck last week on FM 275. If anybody knows how they are doing, please let me know.
Jennifer Lopez and Jose Perea “tied the knot” while on the spring break holiday. They were married on March 18 by the Justice of the Peace. Jennifer’s parents, Poncho and Angelica Lopez, as well as a few of Jose’s uncles were in attendance on their big day. Afterward the families enjoyed cake and tacos at Jose’s family’s house in Saltillo. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Perea!
Saturday I made a trip over to the Bonanza community to buy one of the Clifton Cemetery books from Howard and Cornelia Garrett. It was nice getting to talk to them. Mrs. Garrett told me that it took the committee five years to finish the book. It is a great asset to anyone who has relatives in the County Line area.
At Monday night’s regular school board meeting it was decided to schedule this year’s End-of-School Stew for Friday, May 20. Since participation has dropped over the last few years, it was decided to have the stew on a Friday instead of the usual Saturday. It will be held in conjunction with the end-of-year awards assemblies for the school and kindergarten graduation.
Mark your calendars for the upcoming cemetery work day. Anyone is welcome to come and help do a little spring cleaning in Miller Grove Cemetery. The work day is scheduled for the first Saturday in April, which will be next Saturday, April 2.
Happy birthday to Jim Burns and Gary Darrow on March 21; Ann Moseley on March 22; Sheena (Petty) McCraw on March 23; Sean Pence and Clinton Lennon on March 24; and Kim (Miller) Dodd, Kay (Miller) Blanton and Jackie Burns on March 26.
