I would like to pass my condolences along to the Dickson and Taylor families for the loss of Marie (Taylor) Dickson this week. She passed away Feb. 5 in Sulphur Springs. Ruth Marie Dickson was born in Miller Grove to Johnny C. and Ada (Patton) Taylor on June 19, 1928. She married S.A. Dickson in 1955 in Saltillo. Marie was a librarian at Miller Grove School for several years prior to being a bookkeeper at Babcock’s. She was a member of Davis Street Baptist Church. Burial took place Feb. 8 in Greenview Cemetery. Her husband preceded her in death in 2007.
Steve Rhodes’ father, Burt Rhodes, also passed away this week. He was buried at Dougherty Cemetery. Please remember his family.
Bill Tate was another person with Miller Grove ties that was buried this week. Bill owned and operated a dairy in Center Point for several years before moving. I send my sympathies to his children, Terry and Cindy, and his grandsons, Kyle and Cole. Cole and I were in the same class in school for several years, until Cole moved to Yantis. Bill was buried in Brashear Cemetery.
Because of the weather, last week’s two basketball games were cancelled and moved to this week. Monday night we played Fannindel at Fannindel and won both varsity games. Tuesday night we battled Dodd City at their gym and lost both games. Thursday night we will play Roxton at Miller Grove, and Friday night we will play Savoy at home (weather permitting). If you get a chance, please come out to support our teams.
Monday will be the big Science Fair at the high school, and Tuesday will be spring pictures.
Happy birthday to Stephen Sparks on Feb. 6, Jesse Ballentine on Feb. 8, Clay Smith on Feb. 9, Vanessa Tipps on Feb. 11, and R.A. Long on Feb. 12.
Happy anniversary to my brother and sister-in-law, Bradley and Madison Darrow, on Feb. 9. They are celebrating their third year of marriage.
Last week I made a typographical error in my birthday listing. I said that it was Hayden Mabe’s birthday, but his name is Kaden Mabe. I heard that he had two good birthday parties to celebrate his second birthday.
