Ready or not, Christmas is quickly approaching — there’s only a little over a week until school is out for Christmas break. Students and teachers alike look forward to Christmas break because it is a much-deserved time to rest and enjoy the holiday season.

Happy birthday to Jeremy Darrow, James Oler and Tyler Lennon on Dec. 5; Cletis Millsap and David May on Dec. 9; Joni Burns on Dec. 10; and Michael Frobish on Dec. 11.

Happy anniversary to Blake and Misty Smith on Dec. 8, and Dusty and Tara Spencer on Dec. 11.

Dichele Smith had a baby shower Sunday at Plain ‘N’ Fancy restaurant in Sulphur Springs. She and Clay will be having a little girl in January. Her name will be Charliegh Smith.

The Miller Grove Hornets basketball team didn’t do as well as we had hoped during the tournament. I believe we ended up winning 6th place. There were a total of 16 teams that participated in the three-day tournament.

If anyone should be congratulated during the tournament it should be the ladies that worked in the concession stand. They spent three days being up on their feet all day and then cleaning up each night after the games ended. That is not to mention the times that they had to go to Wal-Mart to restock their pantry. Five or six ladies kept the concession stand going during the tournament. I know they are always needing more parent volunteers to work the concession stand during the teams’ regular season games.

A UIL meet kept the kids busy Tuesday and today. The elementary and junior high participants went to the district meet at Savoy and Ector schools. Results will be back in a few days. The students have been preparing for several weeks now.

Carter Blood Care will be coming to Miller Grove School on Monday, Dec. 13. They will be stationed in the high school parking lot from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. If you would like to donate blood, please sign up in the high school office ahead of time.

I am still collecting pictures for the school’s pictorial history book. I am searching for pictures of people who have served on the school’s board of trustees. If anyone has any pictures of their parents, grandparents or any other relative that served as a school board member, please let me know.

As you travel the highways and byways, don’t forget that all roads lead home and back to Miller Grove. Please send me any newsworthy information. My e-mail address is This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
