I have several items to report this week.
Last Wednesday, Faye Tipps underwent foot surgery and seems to be doing well. She will have a short stay in rehab before returning home. If anyone would like her phone number please let me know and I will be glad to share it with you.
Friday was Justin Darrow’s last day to work at L-3 Communications in Greenville. He started a full-time job with the Sulphur Springs Police Department on Monday. He has studied and worked toward joining the police department for several months now. I hope he enjoys his new job.
I went to Callie Smith and Corey Glover’s wedding Saturday at Davis Street Baptist Church. The sanctuary was decorated so nicely, and Callie was very lovely in her long, white wedding gown. Guests listened as Miller Grove High School English teacher Leanne Bryant sang “Shine on Us” and “I Just Call You Mine” while Barbara Taylor accompanied her on the piano. The maid of honor was Rebecca George, and Canyon Smith, nephew of the bride, was the ring bearer. Cory’s two daughters, Maci and Vada, were both flower girls. Those two little ladies stole the show as they approached the end of the aisle and dumped their baskets of flower petals onto the floor. Monty Tipps did a nice job singing “Forever’s as Far as I’ll Go.” After pictures and congratulations from various guests, the reception was held in the church’s Family Life Center. Pumpkins, gourds and fall flower arrangements were placed throughout the building and on the serving tables. Several different types of cakes were served along with an orange-coconut flavored punch. Congratulations Callie and Corey on your new life together!
Happy birthday this week to: Dichele Smith on Oct. 25; Uleta Taylor and Coeby Purser on Oct. 27; Kevin Tipps on Oct. 28; Terry Jill (McGowan) Asbill, Billy Dunn and William Sallee Jr. on Oct. 29; and Riley Hasten on Oct. 30.
Friday night will be Miller Grove’s annual Fall Carnival. The stew and chili will start at 5:30 p.m. and be served until 7 p.m. A costume contest for little children will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Various prizes will be given to the winners of the contest. Carnival booths will be in the old gym from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with bingo following in the cafeteria at 8 p.m. Just before bingo there will be a silent auction. Please come and support our school and the students. This is a great fundraiser for the entire school and the PTO.
Friday night is also the date for the Miller Grove Lady Hornets volleyball team’s playoff game. The game will be in Grand Saline at 5 p.m. It is bad timing for us since the carnival will be going on, but the school doesn’t get to decide when a playoff game is held.
