Next week will be the school’s annual Fall Carnival. That is the single most important fundraising activity for the school all year. The PTO and each class works very hard to make money to be able to do extra things all year long. I will have more details about the carnival in next week’s column.

Carolyn Burns was honored at Monday night’s regular school board meeting. After 14 years of service to the district Carolyn will vacate the her spot on the school board of trustees. She has the distinct honor of being the first lady elected as a school board trustee in the 1984-1985 school year. After serving a short term in the 1980s, Carolyn was elected to the school board once again in the 2000-2001 school year. At the meeting Monday she was honored with a plaque from the district for her years of service. She also received a gift from the Elementary Student Council and cards of appreciation from all of the elementary students.

Please remember Beth Wisenbaker’s community meeting that will be held in Miller Grove’s new gym on Thursday, Oct. 28, at 7 p.m. She has called meetings in other communities in her precinct and will be doing the same in Miller Grove. Mark your calendars to attend her public meeting.

Miller Grove’s varsity volleyball girls may make the playoffs this year. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for them!

Faye Tipps will be having surgery on her foot today (Wednesday, Oct. 20) in Greenville. This is her second foot surgery, so here’s hoping the second time will be the charm and she will recover quickly. Keep her in your prayers as she recuperates from surgery.

Happy birthday wishes go out to: Emma Johnson on Oct. 18; Hunter Darrow on Oct. 19; Chase Lee, Rolanda Hasten, Brenda White, Joan Garrett and Kenneth Smith on Oct. 21; and Cindy Tate and Jeff Wren on Oct. 23.

Happy 13th anniversary to Justin and Caryn Darrow on Oct. 18. It seems like just yesterday that they were married.

Callie Smith and Cory Glover will wed this Saturday at Davis Street Baptist Church. Callie is the daughter of Barry and Julie Smith of the South Liberty community. She graduated from Miller Grove High School in 2006.
