MILLER GROVE NEWS

By Brandon Darrow

Slowly but surely we’re creeping up on Christmas. Many folks have already been enjoying the holiday season with various Christmas  traditions. Sunday our church (Brashear Baptist) had a children’s Christmas program. They all did very well. We had several visitors, too. Sunday was also the day that the Miller Grove Methodist Church had their dinner after the regular service.

One upcoming Christmas event that has been taking up a lot of our time at school is the annual Christmas program. This will be Mrs. Taylor’s last program to choreograph. She will retire at the end of the year.  The students have been practicing weekly for this special event. I hope that you can come join us Thursday night at 7.

One birthday that has just past is that of Bob Flecker. His birthday was Dec. 14. Turk Morgan (of Sulphur Springs) will celebrate a birthday on Dec. 20. Rex Lennon also has a birthday on the 20th. I’m sure many of you remember my cousin, Bonnie (Ferguson) Callan. Her birthday is Dec. 17. Happy birthday Bonnie Jean!

Mary (Russell) Ridings has had her second baby. I think someone told me that she had another girl, but I may be wrong about that. I’m sure she and husband, Josh, are thrilled to have an addition to their family.

Much progress has been made on the fire department’s new building. They have the frame of the building up now.

Last week the cemetery committees had a meeting to elect someone to fill Leon Renshaw’s vacancy on the financial committee. It was suggested that Edward Clark assume the position until Leon’s term expires. I’m sure Edward will do a fine job. He is a good man and has always taken an interest in the Miller Grove Cemetery. His parents and wife, Mrs. Verta Clark, are buried at Miller Grove.

Monday we found out the good news that my brother and wife are going to have a little girl. It’s hard to believe that we will have a girl in the family — nost of the Darrows have boys.

R.A. Long, frequent visitor of the Center Point community, has been in the hospital lately. He has had congestive heart failure and blood clots in his legs. I hope he gets to feeling better soon so that he and Faye Tipps can go eat fish at Stacey’s Fish Fry. They usually go every Friday night.
