Brashear News for Sept. 29, 2010

What a difference a week can make! Are you enjoying this weather? It makes you just want to sit and let the cool breeze blow over you. I even got out and worked in the flower beds today — much-needed work, I must say, but I kept putting it off because it was soooo hot. Now some of the beds are cleaned out. Hope you have had some time to get out and enjoy the change in weather.

It is such a joy to live in Brashear. Can you imagine living in a big city? I actually had an ex-student ask me where Brashear was located. She has lived in Sulphur Springs all of her life and she does not know where beautiful Brashear is located. Tiffany, you do not know what you are missing.

Brashear News for Aug. 18, 2010

Well, 18 days continuous of 100 degrees or plus. The wind just blew in and the temperature just dropped down to 95. Ready for fall to begin.

Football has started. Go Wildcats! Let’s hope the weather gets cooler before Friday night scrimmage.

Hog sightings have increased. Tom has seen several and I saw 12 this morning on the property at the corner of CR 1117 and 1100. Can you take them and have them butchered locally?

I would like to apologize to the Stone family. Mr. Leon Stone Let me know that his father had passed away last year. So if I happen to put a family member in the paper for their birthday, please let me know.

I want to thank Donnie Kinecut of Birthright for the green tomato relish recipe that she gave me. So Jo Beth here are two recipes:

Tomato Relish Recipe I

1 gallon of chopped green tomatoes

2 cups of chopped onions

Hot peppers to taste

1 pint vinegar

3 cups sugar

1/2 cup salt

Bell pepper or red pepper to add some color.

Simmer until tomatoes change colors. Place in hot jars and place in cold water bath until sealed, or place in cooker with 10 pounds of pressure for 10 minutes.

Tomato Relish Recipe II

1 gallon chopped green tomatoes

1 quart of chopped white onions

1/2 pint of hot green peppers

1/4 cup salt

2 1/2 cup sugar

1 quart of vinegar

Cook ingredients, thend and then place in jars and seal. I have heard of a new way to seal your pickle relish. After you put the relish, pickles, etc., in the jars, turn them upside down and they will seal.

Happy birthday to Sherry Jennings and Albert Reeves, Aug. 18; Doug McCaw and Betty Reeves, Aug. 19; Hugh Pettigrew and Harvey Snider, Aug. 20; Robert Moody, Aug. 21; Patsy George and Connie Mabe, Aug. 22; Will Burns, Aug. 23. May your day be special and filled with joy, love and peace.

School starts next week, so I hope you and yours that are going back to school will have a great year.
