Brashear News for March 28, 2012

The weather has been fantastic this week. I have spring fever so bad; I just want to stay outside and work in the flower beds. My grandson has been visiting and we have done just that. The flower beds are looking good. Thank you, Colby.

I received a call last week from Marie to tell me that Kerry Burgin was in the hospital. She was having some health issues and we want to let her know that we are praying for her. Thank you, Marie, for the update.

I heard also that Sonny and Barbara Stewart will be visiting their daughter a while before they come home. Hurry home — we miss you!

We want to wish Donna Moore happy birthday even though it is a little late. Please forgive us. Your daughter-in-law, Sharon, e-mailed me asking me to remember to mention your birthday in my column this week.

Controversy has arisen about trees leafing out. Last week I mentioned the old saying, “If pecan trees haven't leafed out there is still a chance of frost.” Well, I had another call, and they said that it was the “bois d'arc tree.” Can anyone help me out? Which way have you heard it? I guess it doesn't really matter now that both have leafed out. You’ve gotta love Texas weather.

Don't forget the Brashear Baptist Youth Fundraiser this Saturday evening, March 31. There will be good food —  chili and stew will be served — and an auction. Hope to see you there. The money raised will help the kids go to camp this summer.

The Hope Community Fellowship last Saturday night was awesome. We had 21 people the first Saturday night. We had 33 people last Saturday night. If you are looking for a place to worship because you work on Sunday morning or do not have a church home, check it out. The Praise and Worship services are currently being held every other Saturday night at 110 Glover St. in Sulphur Springs

We love family, and this weekend we will be having our family over to celebrate our March birthdays. Matt, Sable and Colby all celebrate their birthday within two weeks of each other. We will be having good food, fishing, kite flying, and an Easter Egg hunt. We hope that the Blackie, our dog, doesn't eat all of the eggs.

I would like to wish all of you a blessed week. Remember to call me at 903-612-8806; e-mail me at youngdede60@gmail. com; or come on by our place on County Road 1119 with news you would like to have put in the paper.

Rain! We measured 4.1 inches as of Tuesday afternoon. Love it. Water everywhere. I had never seen it over our dock, but it made it this time.

Spring break! The weather is fantastic. Still very wet, but no complaint here for the garden is really sprouting. Tom says everything is up but potatoes. I have been digging in the flower beds with a lot of water in the bottom of the hole.

Another week has gone by with beautiful weather. The wind was strong but still nice to be outside. The rain is coming and is so needed.

Debbie says she will not have a column this week. “So sorry — nothing new here in Brashear,” she reports. Perhaps things will pick up next week.
