Greetings from the southwest corner of Hopkins County. How about this weather? Are you ready for some rain and cool temperatures? Looks like we may be in for some changes this weekend. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.

Today, we found some wild plums to pick in front of my mother’s. I thought it was too late, but while we were picking, Burney Shoemaker stopped by. He said that he had a lot of plums around his house and we were welcome to go and pick. We didn’t find any plums, but we did find some friendly people. Everyone along that road waved as if they knew us. Only in the country can you get that kind of reception.

I am so fortunate to be able to write this column because I have made so many new friends and acquaintances. For instance, Jerry Bramlett from Plano sends me e-mails and interesting information, the latest being a video. The message was as follows: “If you want to have your faith in America restored, please watch this video. This video has moved me beyond words. Please watch and then forward to all of your friends. I hope this display of compassion and patriotism is contagious. The family of this fallen warrior must be overcome with emotions — thankfully someone took a video: http://blip.tv/play/AYGJ5h6YgmE. We should all be proud of everyone who is out fighting this war.

I forgot Mark Krotky on July 2; Kaye Bishop’s and Kaitlynn George’s birthdays on July 3, Linda Sanders on July 7; Audrea Darling, Barbara Stewart, and Ronnie Kinworthy on July 10; Loyd Chapin on the 12th. Please forgive me. Birthdays for the next week are: David Burns Jr., July 15; Bradley and Bryan Caudle, July 17; Clint George, July 18; Jacob George and Velma Schubert on July 20; and Samuel Gomez, July 21. If I have repeated anyone’s birthday, please excuse this old lady. I am getting forgetful lately.

I have not heard from anyone lately on what might be coming up in big Brashear, so please keep your ears open and let me know. Same e-mail ddyoung@cawb. com; same phone number 903-612-8806; or just come on by CR 1119.
