I'm back. Thanks for all of the questions as to why there is no news. I need some input, so I am thankful for some help.

First, I want to express my sympathies to Sharon Moore on the loss of her cousin. Cancer is hard especially when you lose a loved one. Praying for the family to remember the good times and be thankful he is not in pain now.

I am looking for people who need some help with food. I know that the local 4-H hands out Thanksgiving baskets. Please let me know if you have a name of a family that could use some assistance for their Thanksgiving dinner.

Thanks to Johanna Hicks for the following information.

The “2012 Fall Do Well, Be Well with Diabetes” series is scheduled for Oct. 15, 18, 22, 25, and 29, at 6 p.m. at the Hopkins County Extension Office, 1200-B West Houston St. in Sulphur Springs. Cost is $20 payable at the first session, which includes all materials, refreshments, door prizes and great information on diabetes management.

"Dinner Tonight Cooking School" is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 30, at the Hopkins County Regional Civic Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. to view exhibits and sign up for door prizes, with the program to follow. A celebrity tasting panel will be on hand to provide feedback on the dishes demonstrated. Each participant will receive a cookbook and gift bag. Cost is $15, with pre-registration required. Registration brochures are available at the Hopkins, Hunt, Rains and Wood County Extension offices.

The 39th annual Extension "Christmas Joys — Handmade Holidays" program will be Monday, Nov. 5, at the Southwest Dairy Museum at 1:30 p.m., and repeated at 5:30 p.m. (choose one). Cost is $5, payable at the door. Registration is limited to 80 per session. You must call to reserve a seat, 903-885-3443.

For more information on any of these, please contact the Hopkins County office of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, 903-885-3443, or go by 1200-B West Houston St.

Tom and I went to the Senior Expo this morning and, if you didn't, you missed out. There was so much information for seniors. We had our blood pressure checked; results will be sent to me in the mail. If you know me, it was so good. I am pretty laid back until football games and grandchildren. You know what I mean. I also won a great door prize. The mums are beautiful — thank you Senior Citizens Center.

I am working with the Senior Citizens Center to have a Health Fair here in Brashear. We want to make a lot of information and tests brought here to Brashear for our seniors who are unable to make it to town. Let me know if you are interested if a senior, or a health care provider. Election time is fast approaching, so watch the news and make your choice. Remember to early vote or be ready to vote on Nov. 6, at the community center.

The weather has been awesome. Love the cool weather and the dampness. We had some rain but still could use some more to close up the cracks in the ground. The grasshoppers are still bad up the road. How much longer will they be around? Fall garden has come up. It looks like Tom will have some spinach and green beans. Yea!

Fall events are in the works all around the county. Be sure and pay attention to what is going on around you. Check the local radio stations or the newspaper for upcoming events. Remember the stew cook-off is almost two weeks away. I know everyone loves their Hopkins County stew.

I have run out of news for now, until I hear from you or talk to some of my sources. I will try to be back next week with more news. Take care and remember there is someone out there just needing a smile to make their day. Remember also to call me at 903-612-8806; email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ; or come on by at CR 1119, and we will visit.
