Yes, I am still alive. It has been a busy three weeks. First, we had a wonderful vacation. We went to Crystal Beach and had some quality family time with our children and their families. Thanks to all of them for a great time.

Then we got back and tried to catch up on everything around the house — mowing, picking the garden and visiting with other family members.
Last week, we suffered a big loss. Tom's mother died in her sleep.  We had had a surprise party for her on the weekend before. Who knew it would be her last? She was an amazing woman and my hero. Thanks to everyone who has called, sent a card or dropped by to express their sympathy. We are so blessed to live in a community that shows that they care.
Brashear Baptist Church's revival last week was a good one. I heard that news from several of my friends that attend this church. Their ministry to provide meals on Tuesday for shut-ins is going well. Don't forget — if you know of someone who could use a good hot meal, call the church and let them know. We want to make sure that those who need some food are getting fed.
The Dinner Bell from the FUMC in Sulphur Springs is going great guns. This week they begin to feed the Boys and Girls Club for six weeks. I want to wish them good luck with this new venture.
While we were out of town, the garden bit the dust. All we are getting now are okra and tomatoes. Tom plowed under the melons and after the rain (2 inches) last week, we are beginning to see new sprouts of melons. They might come back.
We were given buttercup squash this weekend at church. I am looking for some good recipes for this. Please call.
Just a little heads up. Our church, First United Methodist, is going to have a clothes drive on August 18. So clean out your closets, drawers, and shelves, then bring the items to the FUMC in Sulphur Springs starting on the day of August 4th.  All items will sell for 25 cents, so help yourself as well as someone else — clean out the closets of those clothes you do not wear, those clothes that do not fit anymore, and the items that for whatever other reasons you do not wear. We all know that women have three sizes in their closet: their skinny clothes, those that still fit a little, and the big ones for when we backslide. So help us!
I almost forgot — two of my friends have rescued me. They have been exercising all summer and now have allowed me to sweat with them. Thank you to Carol Cowley and Karen Phillips. I have so much fun on CR 1112 that I almost can’t cannot control myself.
I guess that is all for now. Remember to call me at 903-612-8806; e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ; or just come on by our place on CR 1119. A lot of good things are happening around here in Brashear. Until next week, please be kind, and let someone know that you care.
