Rain, rain, rain — wonderful, beautiful rain; we have had 3 inches so far. Pools are full and looking good.

So glad to see friends have returned from Christmas holidays. Our year is going great guns. Hope your year is going well.

We would like to thank the people at Cooper Lake State Park for the wonderful time of learning about the birds in our area at Saturday’s Winter Birding Program at Honey Creek Amphitheater. One fact we found out was that you do not have to take down your hummingbird feeders. Our bird man told us that birds know when to move on. He said we can keep them up. We met some great people and enjoyed immensely the program provided. They have several programs scheduled there will be a Dutch Oven Cooking sometime this month. There is also a great bird-watching program being offered at Tyler State Park on March 31.

Don't forget the Chili Cookoff this weekend at the Civic Center. This is for a very good cause.

We saw something really unusual Monday on County Road 1117. A limb had fallen and was smoking. The tree from which the limb came from had flames leaping from it. Tuesday evening, the limb on the tree still had flames leaping from it. With all of the rain, I would never have thought that the flames would still be smoking.

As we move forward into 2012, let's all remember that times are hard and there are people who are needing a little love and help. So take time to check on your neighbors, family, or just someone who seems lonely in your area, and show some concern for their well-being. With resolutions falling by the wayside (already), let's try to show some neighborly love.

The sunrise was beautiful.
