Oops! So sorry about missing last week’s deadline — I have my grandchildren here and it simply slipped my mind until about 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Please forgive. Now, on to the news.

Well, just to let everyone know, it is very hot here in ol’ Brashear. I knew you would be excited about me letting you know that. Does this remind everyone of the summer of 1980 when it was soooo hot? I had just found out I was pregnant, so it was doubly hot, or so I thought. Ha!

Tom has been putting out the wheelbarrow again this year with cantaloupes. I looked out the other day and a nice gentleman was pushing it up the driveway because he was worried about leaving the money out by the road. I told him that would be something to worry about in the big city, but here in Brashear with only two to three cars all day? No problem!

The Senior Citizen Center on July 23 will be hosting a Senior Citizen Old West-themed Prom. It is being sponsored by Angels Care Home Health and Home Helpers. There will be hamburgers with all of the trimmings, good fun and good music. For more information call Ashley Reeder, at 903-454-6001. If you have not ever attended any of these events, you are missing out.

Karon Weatherman just contacted me to about Robbin Bass, the new benefits counselor for the Ark-Texas Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging. Robbin is going to start being in Sulphur Springs twice a month. She will have an office at CANHelp, 613 Gilmer St., on the second Monday of every month. She will be at the Senior Citizens Center during the last week of each month. Her scheduled days at the Senior Center will vary from month to month. She will have topics chosen each month to talk about but will also be able to answer any questions that you might have If she doesn't know the answer right away, she has vast resources to get you the information that you need.

If you need to make an appointment to speak with her, just call her at 903-832-8636 or toll free at 1-800-372-4464 to make an appointment. Her e-mail address is: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it if you’ rather contact her that way.

Below is the schedule that Robbin gave me for the Senior Center for the next three months:

Tuesday, Aug, 30, 10 a.m. to noon: She will be speaking on "Medicare's Preventative Services"

Tuesday, Sept. 27, 10 a.m. to noon: She will explain the 2011 Medicare Part D Enrollment Period.

Friday, Oct. 28, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.: She will be enrolling people in Medicare Part D and giving out information on "Long Term Care and Your Money."

I guess you might have noticed that I mention the Senior Citizen Center a lot in Brashear News. I feel we are so blessed to have such a place in Sulphur Springs. There are so many options available — food, entertainment and exercise, as well as instruction and information. Visit and find out what is going on here.

To everyone that uses Facebook, wow, what an instrument! When you need information, just post it and everyone will try to help. I had some help this weekend and want to thank Carolyn and Larry for coming by. I appreciate it very much. I also want to thank everyone for the birthday good wishes I have received this week. It’s not so bad getting this old with all of you wonderful people.

Another week down with the hot, hot weather. I heard it is going to get even hotter with a high heat index next week. Those of you with breathing problems, take extra precautions to be very careful. Please take care and check on anyone who lives by themselves. We need to make sure they are staying cool and hydrated. Be careful of the heat.

Until next week, call me at 903-612-8806; e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ; or just come on by CR 1119.
