Brashear has lost two loved ones this week. We want to send our prayers to the Cathy Bunch family and then to the family of Bill Gardner,

a longtime business owner here in Brashear. If you remember Bill, go by the store and sign the card so the family will know that you care. I talked to Joyce Hale last night and she was saddened by Bill’s passing. She had a funny story about Bill. She said when she first learned to drive and went to the store for gas, he would always say, “You be careful now.” She still remembers how nice a guy he was.

It is time to get your garden ready. I had a visit from Glen George last week. He brought us some reddish-purple turnips, an unusual brand he grows in his garden. Tom really enjoyed them. Not me. If you are a novice gardener, you need to know to have your garden ready by early February. My Dad always said to plant your new potatoes and onion sprouts by Feb. 14.

Called JoAnn Potter and found out that her sister, Brenda Hughes, from California was visiting JoAnn and Randy. JoAnn’s granddaughter Sicily will be 5 months old this week. We wish her a happy birthday.

Received a call from Beverly Haygood that she and her husband, Ricky, had just returned from a trip to Canada. If you have noticed, Beverly has a beautiful accent — she was born and raised in Ontario, Canada. She said it was a big family celebration of birthdays with Beverly’s and her sister’s birthday fast approaching. She said the snow was beautiful while they were there.

Did you happen to notice Carolyn and Glenn George’s beautiful grandchildren pictured in the paper this week? They were a part of a live nativity scene that the banks sponsored during the holiday season. I know they were bursting with pride to see their grandchildren in the paper.

Another week of cold, so take heart — maybe the cold weather will kill the insects and rats that plagued us last summer.

January is a month of newness, so let us celebrate in the new year of 2009 and take care to remember all of those who are special to us.

Thanks to all of you who help me. Take care and call 903-612-8806, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , or come by and visit. I will always have something cool or hot to drink and something to fill your tummies.

Until next week, may God Bless you and yours.
