Are you ready for the Big Event? Yes, I know you are probably not ready, but the day is growing nigh! Ha, funny sounding, isn’t it? Saturday is the big day, Brashear Bash. The first annual community-wide garage sale which will be starting around 8 a.m. and rounding up everything left around 2 p.m. The Hamburger Lunch will start around 11 a.m. Come by and enjoy a great hamburger, chips and drink for $5 and help fund a good cause, the renovation of the Community Center. We are so fortunate to have Cumby Telephone Cooperative sponsor the meal. We so appreciate all they have done to help us get the ball rolling in our attempt to renovate the Community Center. They have matched our funds so far to begin our first project, floor leveling, which begins in the next two weeks. We have hired James Weatherman to do the work, and our goal is to be completed by June 6. That is the date for our annual Brashear Cemetery Homecoming.

The Brashear Bash has approximately 20 families participating. There is a garage sale at County Road 1199, at County Road 1119, and a sale at the Community Center. There will be 20 people set up in the Family Life Center at Brashear Baptist Church. All money collected by these people will be their own. I will be set up at the ball field with a trailer with all of the items I have received in donations toward the Community Center. There will be people at the Community Center selling items that have been donated too. Just remember that the lunch and items purchased at the Community Center and off of my trailer at the ball field goes toward the Community Center. Those in the family life center are selling items that they will receive the money for. I hope that is clear. If not, call me to clarify this.

Don’t forget I will be also hosting a plant swap. Bring seeds, samplings, or sprigs for trade at the Brashear Bash on the ball field.

An update on the Baptist Brashear Youth Stew Supper on Saturday night: They made $5,600. This will help them to go to camp this summer. Remember, if you want to help out the mission class at the Walk for Jesus, call Brashear Baptist Church for more information. This walk is to help provide fans for the needy in Brashear.

Hope everyone has noticed that the Brashear Store is now open under new management. Stop by and introduce yourself and welcome them.

How is your garden growing? We need rain. Hope it is on your prayer list. Our turnips, radishes and collard greens are doing well. Wouldn’t you know, I do not like any of these! I do cook them for Tom, though.

I want to alert everyone on snakes. We are on “snake watch” around our house. We found one close to the house and another the other day when we went fishing. Can anyone identify one for me? It was brown with yellow spots. Not sure what kind, and if you know me, any snake is deadly to me.

Well, I hope you will come by Saturday to eat, visit, and shop. If you do not know me, please come up and introduce yourself. I will be the one with a canopy and trailer with items for sale. I will also have some things for the plant swap.

Life is too short to hold grudges, so I would like everyone to remember to take the time to forgive everyone. Even your enemies need love.

Remember to call me at 903-612-8806; email me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ; or just stop by CR 1119. Sure hoping for better weather for Saturday. Can you imagine we had ice on our windshield this morning?
