There is no place like home. We have just returned from a little trip to Destin, Fla. We had stops in Gulfport, Miss., and Styx River, Ga. Lovely trip with lots of beaches, but we sure are glad to be back in our little piece of heaven.

On Labor Day last week, we visited the new Shadow Ranch here in Brashear. This is such a great endeavor these ladies have opened up. Shadow Ranch is a therapeutic riding center. They offer opportunities and help in developing life skills for people with disabilities. The people you need to talk to are Marion Cox or Pam Richardson. These ladies are awesome! They have worked hard to see this dream come true. We were very impressed with everything. Shadow Ranch hopes to work hand-in-hand with local school districts. This program is not only for students but also for returning veterans who have sustained serious injuries-. Let’s all try and help support Shadow Ranch. They have need for many volunteers in many areas. They have forms for volunteers to fill out — just stop by or go to their website, www.shadowranchtx.com, or send an e-mail to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Calling all Brashear citizens: We have a call out for help in getting our community center booming again — that is to say, we would like ideas for ways to keep it open for all kinds of events locally. We would like any input you might have for fund raising. We would love to hear from everyone. Please call me and I will see that your voice is heard.

The rain has sure perked everything up. The pastures are looking good again. How is everyone’s fall garden growing? Hope you are having some success.

Congratulations to Kyle Koon on his upcoming marriage this weekend at Koon Lake.

Happy birthday to Ty Childers and Allison Burns, both on Sept. 17.

Remember this weekend is the Fall Festival and the World Champion Hopkins County Stew Contest. We will be at the Senior Citizens Center site. Hope to see you there. Drop by and say “Howdy.”

I heard that Elton Stewart will be laid up for a while with back surgery. Here’s hoping you are up and around to meet with your buds at the Brashear Store real soon, Elton.

I would also like to thank Beth Wisenbaker, the electrical people and the Precinct 1 crew for taking care of that falling down tree on County Road 1117. With the way the wind was blowing Tuesday evening, that tree would have been a hazard for sure. Thanks for help in cutting it down and cleaning it up.

I have run out of things to say, so until next week, take care, and remember to take care of those who are less fortunate. Please call me at 903-612-8806; e-mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ; or just stop by County Road 1119.
