Boeing jetliner 1Q deliveries up 5 percent

E-mail Print PDF

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Boeing Co. delivered 121 jetliners in the first three months of 2009, a 5 percent rise from the same period last year, despite weaker demand for airplanes because of the sagging world economy.

The Chicago-based aerospace giant has been hit by sharply lower orders for commercial planes this year as the recession deepens and air travel wanes. Airlines have cut flights and some carriers have delayed orders or deliveries of new jets.

But Boeing built a record backlog of orders before the economic slowdown hit last fall, and executives say they expect to fulfill all orders scheduled for 2009.

Boeing delivered 115 jetliners during the first quarter of 2008.
