Ocean Prime, one of Dallas’ most elegant restaurants, has joined the News-Telegram and the AT&T Performing Arts Center to offer one lucky reader a spectacular “Night of Jazz” on Thursday, Aug. 9.
Ocean Prime will host our winner and a guest for dinner at the Cedar Springs location prior to a concert by Brian Culbertson and David Sanborn at the Winspear Opera House in the Dallas Arts District.
“I’d be glad to have them as our guests,” said Ocean Prime's General Manager Walter Hatcher. “We look forward to having them here.”
Ocean Prime has created a special pre fixe menu for Arts District patrons. Beverages, alcohol and gratuity are not included in the prize package.
After dinner, our winner will make the short trip to the fabulous Winspear Opera House, home to the AT&T Performing Arts Center events, for an evening with jazz greats Brian Culbertson and David Sanborn.
“Ocean Prime pairs a sophisticated dining experience with down home friendliness,” says local resident Sarah Smith. “Everyone we dealt with from the receptionist to the waiters to the manager wanted to make sure we were having a good visit.
According to their website, “Ocean Prime is the culmination of a creative exercise we started in 2006 to define the best in culinary, beverage, service and atmosphere. Our team wanted to pair a great steakhouse with a great seafood restaurant. We imagined a place where our guests are greeted by name and partner with us in adventures of great food, wine and libation. In August 2006 we opened Mitchell's Ocean Club in our hometown, Columbus, Ohio.
“As we expanded our Modern American supper club concept outside Ohio, we renamed it Ocean Prime, with “Prime” reflecting our commitment to serving the highest quality steak, seafood, handcrafted cocktails and award-winning wines. We’ve opened nine locations to much success, and we look forward to opening our 10th location, Philadelphia, in spring 2013.”
One of the more memorable aspects of Ocean Prime is their attention to detail. From the moment you turn your keys over to the valet until you pick them up again, you’re surrounded by staff who seem vested in your dining experience.
“Our personable and attentive waiter went out of his way to offer good suggestions for menu items and pairings,” Smith recalls. “The food was excellent. A well-prepared Maine lobster is hard to beat, but that fluffy chocolate peanut butter pie was a marvel. Ocean Prime is the perfect place for a special occasion.”
Carol Allen and her husband, John, had an early dinner there Thursday.
“Having a trip to the doctor in Dallas end with a lovely little side trip for dinner at Ocean Prime is a very nice bit of serendipity,” Carol Allen said. “Sophisticated and inviting, from the decor to the music to the oh-so-cool-lighting, this restaurant has it all.”
The Allens had “lovely seared scallops” and “perfectly blackened red fish.”
They finished with Ocean Prime’s famous carrot cake.
“A slice of 10-layer carrot cake [touted to be the best in all of Dallas] with French press coffee was the last hurrah,” Allen added. “We will go again and again.”
Ocean Prime is located at 2011 Cedar Springs Road, Suite 150. Call 214-965-0440 for reservations, which are recommended.
