News-Telegram, AT&T, Ocean Prime offer a jazzy night in Dallas

DALLAS – Smooth jazz giants Brian Culbertson and David Sanborn are coming to the AT&T Performing Arts Center at the Winspear during a stop on their “Dream” tour. You and a guest could see the two artists on Thursday, Aug. 9, courtesy of the AT&T PAC and the News-Telegram.

“We're good to go forward with this,” said Ashley Hess, who handles promotions for the PAC. “We'll have two tickets at will call for your winners.”

But wait. That's not all. Prior to the show, our winner and a guest will dine at Ocean Prime, one of Dallas' premiere restaurants.

"I'd be glad to have them as our guests," said Ocean Prime's General Manager Walter Hatcher. "We look forward to having them here."

Ocean Prime has created a special pre fixe menu for Arts District patrons. Beverages, alcohol and gratuity are not included in the prize package.

According to his website, Culbertson started playing the piano at age 8, took up the drums at age 9, adding trombone at 10 and the bass at 12.

He grew up in Decatur, Ill., his father was the school's award-winning jazz band director.

He moved to Chicago to study at DePaul University. He has composted jingles for United Airlines. Oldsmobile, Sears and McDonald's.

In addition to a string of hit records and singles, Culbertson has performed with Patti Austin, Chris Botti, Boney James and Earl Klugh.

Sanborn has been a staple on the smooth jazz scene since the 1980s, having won six Grammys, earned eight gold and one platinum record. He released his first record in 1975, but has been playing the saxophone since he was in junior high.

Sanborn played Woodstock with Paul Butterfield, toured with Stevie Wonder, has been on stage with the Rolling Stones, Paul Simon and James Taylor.

Tickets to the performance range from $19 to $59 and can be purchased online at www.attpac.org, by phone at 214-880-0202, or in person at the AT&T Performing Arts Center Box Office at the Winspear Opera House, 2403 Flora St. (Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.; Sunday 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.), or at the remote Box Office at Park Place Lexus Plano at 1025 Preston Road.

The show is presented by AT&T PAC and radio station Smooth Jazz 107.5 The Oasis HD2.
