Madeleine Peyroux’s utterly unique sound has made her one of the jazz world’s most intriguing talents.

Peyroux (Pay roux) is bringing her unique sound to the Wyly Theater in Dallas’ Arts District for two shows on Thursday, May 24. She’ll be in concert at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Beloved by fans and critics for her intimately arranged covers of early American blues and jazz music, she honed her vocal and guitar skills on the acoustic streets of Europe—inspired by Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith, Louis Armstrong and other jazz legends. Madeleine has collaborated with heavy-hitters Joe Henry, Steely Dan’s Walter Becker and the Rolling Stones’ Bill Wyman, and toured last year with Diana Krall and Melody Gardot.

Her albums include 2005’s “Careless Love,” 2009’s “Bare Bones” and a new release set for fall 2012 that she’ll showcase in Dallas.

Peyroux was born in Athens, Ga., but moved to Paris at 13 when her parents divorced.

According to Wikipedia, the reclusive Peyroux started singing in Paris’ Latin Quarter, performing with several jazz bands.

Her first record, “Dreamland,” released in 1996, was a criticial success. The record includes covers of Patsy Cline’s “Walking After Midnight” and Edith Piaf’s “La Vie en Rose.”

Tickets for TITAS performances range from $12 to $200 and can be purchased online at www.attpac.org. or by phone at 214-880-0202.
