Miss America moves into reality TV territory

 LAS VEGAS (AP) — It's been slow and not necessarily painless, but Miss America is moving into the 21st century — one well-practiced, high-heeled step at a time.

Last year, she got a reality show complete with absurd challenges and snarky judges. Then she was given an updated look, courtesy of the makeover specialists at the cable network TLC, her current television home.


Dillon pleads not guilty to speeding in Vermont

CHELSEA, Vt. (AP) — Matt Dillon has pleaded not guilty to a Dec. 30 speeding charge in which police say they spotted the actor doing 106 miles per hour on an interstate highway in Vermont.

Lawyer Mark Kaplan, who entered the plea for Dillon, said he hoped the case could be resolved without a trial.


Man pleads not guilty to Hudson family killings

CHICAGO (AP) — Jennifer Hudson's brother-in-law pleaded not guilty Tuesday to charges he shot to death the Oscar-winning actress's mother and brother and the 7-year-old son of his estranged wife.


Swayze checks out of hospital, publicist says

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Patrick Swayze has been released from the hospital one week after checking himself in with pneumonia, his publicist said Friday.

Publicist Annett Wolf would not elaborate on the actor's condition but told The Associated Press he "is well enough to have been released." He is now resting at his Los Angeles home, Wolf said.


4 stabbed at club throwing B.I.G. party

 NEW YORK (AP) — Four men have been stabbed early Saturday at a Brooklyn nightclub advertising an after-party for the film "Notorious" about rapper Biggie Smalls.

Police say a 21-year-old man stabbed numerous times was in critical condition at Brookdale Hospital Saturday. Three others were in stable condition; two were stabbed once in the torso and one was stabbed in the back.
