Started in 1972, Glenn Irvin & Company Real Estate continues to be locally-owned, independent and franchise-free. The business remains committed to serving its customers by considering all of their needs and wishes and a home that meets their needs.
“We're laid back, friendly and professional,” Irvin said. “What is most important to me is this: what matters to our clients is what matters to us! We want all of our clients to treasure their time with us and we want them to be pleased with the service that we provide to them. We truly believe in ‘service above self.’”
Overall, the company consists of four relators: Irvin, Janet Martin, Kristi Brewer and Mindy Skaggs.
Irvin has been in the real estate business in Sulphur Springs since 1971, and started the company in 1972. He is a graduate of of East Texas State University, where he received a bachelor of business administration degree in marketing. Irvin is married to Margaret Prim Irvin; they have one daughter, Holly Thompson. Holly and her husband, Jason, have three children, Story, Jase and Hattie. Glenn and Margaret have attended First United Methodist Church since 1969. Glenn said he loves his work and enjoys going to the office each and every day, but if you can pry him away from it, he also enjoys playing golf!
Janet Martin started her real estate career in 2000 with Glenn Irvin & Company. She received her Texas broker's license in 2004. Martin is a graduate of East Texas State University. She and her husband, Dan, are the parents of two daughters, Brooke and Jennifer, and are grandparents to two boys, Austin and Sage.
Kristi Brewer started her real estate career in 2005. She’s been with Glenn Irvin & Company since she began in the business. Brewer graduated from Texas Tech University. She is married to Brandon and they have three children, Spencer, Braylea and Benjamin. She and her family are very involved and active in the community.
Mindy Skaggs also began her career with Glenn Irvin & Company in 2006, the same year she received her Texas real estate license. She is married to Joseph and together they have five children and are grandparents to three grandchildren, Nicholas and Isaiah and baby Noah due in September.
In May, Irvin received the Texas Monthly Magazine’s five star rating for outstanding sales performance and professional service, an honor received by less than 2 percent of realtors. Glenn Irvin & Company Real Estate’s website, glennirvin.com, has received statewide recognition as well, attracting local, national and international buyers.
He credits his work ethic and sense of responsibility, which have been key factors in the company’s success, to his upbringing on the family farm, located across from what is now Rose Hill subdivision.
“I milked cows, baled hay and slopped hogs. I was only exempt from all of this if I were in school or playing competitive sports, so I played as many sports as I could, primarily baseball, basketball and golf. It paid for my college education as I went to Paris Junior College on a basketball scholarship and then on to East Texas State University on a golf scholarship. As I look back upon my growing up on the farm, it wasn't a fun experience but it was probably one of the best things that ever happened to me. It taught me responsibility and a good work ethic,” he explained.
The business does not come without challenges. A realtor may log innumerable hours showing or working to find a property to fit someone’s needs with no returns. For example, a few years back, Irvin spent two entire days showing people from California property in several counties with no success.
“They admitted later to me that they were just on vacation and wanted someone to show them around Northeast Texas,” Irvin noted.
But, the business is not without perks either. One of Irvin’s most cherished memories was having the privilege of “showing movie star Dorothy Malone property at Sulphur Bluff.”
“I enjoy people (most of them!) and I enjoy what I do. There are a lot of challenges and a lot of worthwhile experiences. Meeting and making new friends is very rewarding to me and to help them find the property they are looking for or getting their property sold is icing on the cake,” he added.
Irvin pointed out that during the last four decades, the real estate business “has changed so much.”
“In 1972, a real estate contract was only one page long. Now, a typical transaction can be 20 to 30 pages,” he noted.
What hasn’t changed is that Glenn Irvin & Company Real Estate continues to be a small, family-owned operation, where the realtors and staff think and act big which result in big results, too.
“Our customers have told us we're like a breath of fresh air when it comes to real estate! If we have a motto, then this would be it: A home is a haven, somewhere you long to be when seasons change and days grow long; a place to put you at ease. All of the amenities you require, all of the comforts you need, all of the innovations you want ... and that's where we come in!” he said.
Glenn Irvin & Company Real Estate is located at 901 West Industrial Drive in Sulphur Springs. The office is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and by appointment on evenings and weekends.
