"SLIGHT Decline in City's Tax Rate Expected"
So the city's tax rate will drop to 43.9 cents instead of the current 44 cents per one hundred dollars of property value. It's the old carrot held out past the horse head trick.
Perhaps it was the increase last year in the water, sewer, and sanitation rates, which they're about to raise even higher soon by about another additional 2.75% ?
They're "planning ahead" all right, and everyone's paying for it. ;)

You are learning.
Your education is progressing nicely.

Why let the truth stand in the way of a good fish story?

It is an old trick that I wish they wouldn't do. Of course, taxpayers have to realize that we can't just keep paying the same amount year after year -- the world doesn't work that way. Sometimes, taxes have to go up. Things cost money and the prices on those "things" go up.

Of course, the "reverse" of that is also true. Tightening the belt would do our city and county wonders (as well as our state and our nation). It is amazing how much money our taxing entities would have if they took a real look at their expenditures.

Exactly. They chip away (ever so slowly) at small areas, all the while crying and complaining about the "loss" or reduction of quality of life in our county or community. Get real. Everyone has a budget. If you don't have it, you don't spend it. Period. Loss of a job, a home, family illness or death, disability, seniors living on fixed incomes with no cost of living adjustment. These are things people in our county have to deal with every day, along with devaluation of the U.S. dollar, rising food costs, fuel , etc. If they really took a sword to their expenditures instead of "scratch-off" they would be amazed how much might be available. But don't hold your breath. Life is fat "at the top". As long as other peoples money holds out, nothing's going to change unless people rise at the ballot box.

The City is tightening it's belt in some ways. City workers haven't had any raises in years.

Well, answer this question then.....

"When was the last time that folks on Social Security or Disability got a cost of living adjustment?" (COLA)
