I was reading an email I got.... FOR THOSE WHO LOVE THE PHILOSOPHY OF AMBIGUITY, AS WELL AS THE
IDIOSYNCRASIES OF ENGLISH:

Stuff like...
-- IF A PARSLEY FARMER IS SUED, CAN THEY GARNISH HIS WAGES?

-- WOULD A FLY WITHOUT WINGS BE CALLED A WALK?

Then I came to this question...
-- WHAT WAS THE BEST THING BEFORE SLICED BREAD?
(the bread slicer was a real labor saving device for the house wife of the time)
So I got to thinking... what did people refer an the "greatest thing"... befor the bread slicer was invented?
:S
Why let the truth stand in the way of a good fish story?

According to Mel Brooks in the 2000 Year Old Man, "liquid Prell."

Stan,

A little off topic, but that reminded me of my grammar professor at old ETSU. The lesson: Don't Dangle your gerunds.

Example: I saw a squirrel driving to work. (This is funny only if you get dangling gerund humor.)

The best thing since indoor plumbing. (Actually heard this one in East Texas.)

And Stanley, don't forget the Sears and Roebuck catalog. Times have really changed, though. When I go to the outhouse, I take my I-pod or my laptop with me. :woohoo:

Also, the country music was better back in the good ole days. Especially since I spent so many years in country radio. Songs like "You're the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly" by Conway and Loretta. And don't forget that classic "Take Me To The Cornfield Honey, I'll Kiss Ya Tween the Ears."

Real, true, meaningful stuff. I am still ticked that Conway and Loretta didn't get an Emmy..or Grammy...or Grampy...for that song.

And you learn real appreciation for the arts in school. Especially when the teacher would beat the living daylights out of you for doodling during math class.

Oh, and these days we have time out. My daughter is 12 now, and her cumulative time out will end when she is 47 years old. But that is pending whatever happens today. Back when I was a kid, my mom gave me time out. She took time out and whipped my hind end. Then she took MORE time out and did it again. I hated time out.

Hey Stan!

Check out our Tyler station's website today 7-7-2011 regarding sliced bread. www.kltv.com

It seems that sliced bread made it's debut on this date in Chilicothe Missouri, even though the bread slicer had been around for years earlier.
