Official: Cowboys knew of earlier canopy collapse

DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Cowboys knew when they hired Summit Structures LLC to build their now-ruined practice facility that a similar fabric structure built by the company for the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority had collapsed in a storm, according to a port official.

Blum delivers winner as Astros beat Cubs

HOUSTON (AP) — Geoff Blum was relieved to see Chicago Cubs ace Carlos Zambrano depart.

Blum got a pitch to hit against Angel Guzman in the bottom of the ninth and delivered the game-winning hit to lift the Astros to a 2-1 win over the Chicago Cubs.

Rangers take LHP Purke with first pick

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) ‚The Texas Rangers selected high school left-hander Matthew Purke with the 14th overall selection in baseball's amateur draft on Tuesday.
Purke, who played at Klein High School just outside of Houston, was 4-2 with a 1.18 earned run average as a senior. He struck out 91 and walked only seven in 47 1-3 innings.

Magic win Game 3, cut Lakers' lead to 2-1

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) ‚Rashard Lewis stood at the free-throw line with less than one second left as several workers hurriedly broomed off confetti that had fallen prematurely onto the Amway Arena floor.
This was the sweep Orlando had waited to see for 14 years.
On their seventh try, the Magic, swept in four straight games by Houston on their previous visit in 1995, got their first win in the NBA finals.

An emotional return to golf for Mickelson

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) ‚An emotional Phil Mickelson returned to the PGA Tour on Wednesday, trying to keep some normalcy in a life that has been turned upside-down by the discovery that his wife has breast cancer.
Mickelson will play the St. Jude Classic, which starts Thursday, and then return to Bethpage Black for the U.S. Open. He is a popular figure in New York, and the runner-up to Tiger Woods at Bethpage in 2002.
