I raised my (hand) antlers up at the Cooper/Como-Pickton football game when I heard the great news about the Rangers.
COOPER — Montrel Roberts scored twice for Cooper as they bounced back from a tough loss to beat Como-Pickton, 41-15 at Bulldog Stadium Friday night.
The big homecoming crowd on the windy night got to see the Bulldogs register the key win using a powerful offense and a defense which held the visiting Eagles scoreless in the second half.
SAVOY — It was a longtime coming, but it could not have come on a better night. The Cumby Trojans struck the Savoy Cardinals, 30-0.
“The weather made it a long night,” said Cumby Trojan head football coach Ed Perez after the game. “It has been a longtime coming, but we are finally getting there. The kids played well, executing exactly what they needed to for the win.”
MOUNT VERNON — It was the North Lamar Panther duo of tail backs Dakota Boles and Ryan McCray that pinked out purple Tigers of Mount Vernon couldn’t match as they fell 40-0.
The visiting team chalked up 460 yards behind Boles and McCray compared to the Tigers’ 130 yards.
WINNSBORO — The Winnsboro Red Raiders declared a needed win Friday night defeating the Grand Saline Indians, 49-19.
Postseason play is not out of reach for Winnsboro with District 7-2A Division I results of Mineola edging out Melissa 36-35 in overtime and Quitman downed Caddo Mills 28-7. Another week of district play is needed to determine how the six teams will land in the standings deciding the three teams going into playoff contention.
