Chillin’ Out -- Sulphur Springs coaches, trainers helping players deal with broiling August heat

The best way to keep from having a problem, is stop it before it starts. That is the proactive approach of the Sulphur Springs coaches and training staff are taking to the broiling summer heat.

While practices are held mostly in the morning, conditions outdoors can still get steamy for players exerting themselves under the summer sun.

Changes happen: Yantis assigns Chris Hightower as boys’ athletic coordinator

Much can be said for scouting out the opponent. It has paid off for Martin's Mill assistant coach Chris Hightower signing on as the new Yantis boys' coordinator, head basketball and baseball coach.

“I scouted Yantis several times,” said Hightower, the former assistant coach for the Martin's Mill Mustangs for the past seven years. “They have been some of the toughest competition. I know them well. I really want to continue the winning tradition that Coach (Jack) Bowles has established.” Hightower noted the number of duties for his first head coaching assignment.

Varsity spots on the Sulphur Springs roster could be decided Friday when the Lady Cats have their first volleyball action of the year.
