Wildcats gear up for Terrell scrimmage

The next test is Terrell.

Sulphur Springs head football coach Greg Owens was pleased with his team’s performance Saturday in home football scrimmage action against Lindale.

The scrimmage was a very productive one for the Wildcats.

Sulphur Springs scored four times and allowed just two scores from Lindale.

The Eagles, a Sulphur Springs playoff foe last year in 4A football, went to 3A in the re-alignment of district. Lindale was the pick by some experts to win the 14-3A race.

The Cumby Trojans offensive line (left) gets ready to block against the hosting Como-Pickton Eagles Saturday afternoon at Ron Heflin Field. Cumby scrimmages at Celeste Thursday at 5 p.m. while Como-Pickton has their final scrimmage hosting Union Hill at 5 p.m. also on Thursday.

The Sulphur Springs freshmen volleyball took consolation in the championship bracket in the Eustace tournament.

The Lady Cats won pool games on Thursday and two of three in bracket play Saturday.

Owens gives Wildcats an ‘A’ -- Sulphur Springs scores four times against Lindale in scrimmage

Zoom-zoom.

Not to sound like a sports car commercial, but it was apparent Saturday that Sulphur Springs had a lot more zoom than Lindale.

The two teams met at Gerald Prim. One play into the scrimmage on the sun-splashed Saturday, it was the Wildcats showing off their jets.

While Sulphur Springs won the scrimmage overall 4-2, it was the first score that turned heads.

Kendrick Daniels grabbed a swing pass from quarterback Justin Owens as he came out of the backfield on the first play for the Sulphur Springs offense. Daniels followed blockers, turned the corner and then was off to the races. It wasn’t even much of a contest as he zoomed 70-yards for the first score of the controlled scrimmage.
