WHS goes for seventh win in row against Godley’s Good

WINNSBORO – With a name like Godley and a quarterback that is literally good, Winnsboro will have their work cut out for them on Friday night in regional playoff contest at Midlothian.

Godley Wildcats have the upper hand in the polls with a 21-point favor. The other cards they will deal come in the form of quarterback senior Riley Good. This season Good has been just that—good in both rushing with over 1,000 yards and passing gaining 800 for his 11-0 team.

“They are the complete package—fast and good size,” said Winnsboro Red Raider head football coach Steve Pinnell. “They use the spread to run the ball. Their quarterback (Riley Good) is their playmaker. It doesn’t matter if he is throwing or running.”

Wildcats, 13-4A teams still in playoffs

To prove how good the 13-4A football district is, the top teams from that district continue in the state football playoffs.

Another Step: Wildcats make another move in the playoffs; Waco U. stands in the way

For Sulphur Springs to continue on the playoff road, they have to take a step through area competition.

The Wildcats, the defending Class 4A Division II state champions, are paired up against Waco University this week in the area playoffs. The Region II Class 4A Area Division II football playoff game is set for 7:30 p.m. at Corsicana’s Tiger Stadium.

Sulphur Springs head football coach Greg Owens said practice has been going great for the upcoming area contest.

“We had to deal with another element, this week the weather,” Owens said. “It has been colder this week, plus we have to adjust to it getting darker quicker this time of year.”
