ESL Classes offered this spring

 English as a Second Language classes, conducted by Paris Junior College, will continue through June 27.

Classes are being held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m., and on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9 p.m.

Classes are conducted at Our Savior Lutheran Church, located at 1000 Texas Street in Sulphur Springs. For further information contact Sandi Dyer at 214-641-0727.

 

PJC invites GED graduates to celebrate with friends and family

Paris Junior College Adult Education and Family Literacy in pleased to announce the upcoming General Educational Development Graduation on Tuesday, May 6,  at 7 p.m. in the PJC Hunt Center in Paris.

Everyone who received his or her GED within the last year will be honored. The GED Graduation ceremony allows graduates the opportunity to walk across the stage in cap and gown regalia. There is no cost to participate.

This year’s graduation speaker will be Mr. Adam Teer, executive director of the nonprofit organization 211 CANHelp in Sulphur Springs.

A reception will take place afterwards to celebrate with friends and family members in attendance. Invitations have been mailed to anyone receiving a GED from the PJC Testing Center. However, if you have not received yours and would like to attend, please call the Adult Education and Family Literacy Office by Tuesday, April 30, to confirm your participation.

PJC offering scholarships that cover summer tuition

Paris Junior College is offering a scholarship covering tuition for one summer class to high school seniors graduating this year. The summer scholarship is in addition to the recently announced $1 million in scholarships for the 2014-2015 academic year beginning with the fall semester.

India.Arie to speak and perform at A&M-Commerce

COMMERCE — Four-time Grammy Award-winning singer and songwriter India.Arie will address the Texas A&M University-Commerce community as the featured presenter in the next installment of the William L. Mayo Prestigious Speaker Series. The event will be held in Ferguson Auditorium at 7 p.m. April 10 p.m. A private reception will follow.

Learning about Phi Theta Kappa
Students at Paris Junior College-Sulphur Springs Center who were invited to join Phi Theta Kappa attended New Member Orientation at the college campus this week. Among those seeking membership were, from left, Kelsey Steele of Miller Grove and Stephanie Chapman of Commerce. Phi Theta Kappa advisor David Larkin (center standing) answers questions from the prospective members. PTK is the international honor society for two-year colleges.
