Cooking with Cindy

Vegan or Vegetarian

“Mom, I'm bringing my girlfriend home for Christmas Eve dinner.  She can't wait to meet you, and by the way, she is vegan.”

Pears, beautiful pears

Marilyn Monroe sang about the joy of owning a “pear-shaped” diamond. The British use the term “pear-shaped” to describe something that has become horribly complicated or gone terribly wrong.

Recipe legacy

What would inspire a newlywed to say to their spouse, “I don’t like that unless you cook it the way my mother did”? Why would otherwise educated foodie palates enjoy such guilty pleasures as mac and cheese from a box or beanie weenies?

Soup's on!

The angle of the sun has changed, the sky is bluer, the mornings are crisper and the smell of campfires and stew pots is in the air. I look forward to this time of year for the deep, rich flavors and the comfort of this favorite cool weather food.

Are you ready to join the Canolution?

People are beginning to remember the joy of eating produce from local gardens and orchards and discovering the pleasure of preserving those products for colder days and long winter nights.
