Robert Weir took Wesley to his last Pilot Club “basketball day” on Saturday. Wesley’s helper this year was Sean Nellis. Yvonne says, “Wes really liked him, and he was very patient.” This is something that Wesley looks forward to all year. On Sunday, Wesley and Yvonne flew the kite that Yvonne bought for him when she was in Charleston, S.C. They enjoyed watching the colorful kite “dipping and bobbing way up high.”

Yvonne reports, “I talked to my sister-in-law in South Dakota and they’ve had a terrible snowstorm and the interstate is closed, which means that it is really bad. Their heifers are calving and they have to keep them close to the barns and put the baby calves under heat lights. We can be so thankful we live in Texas!”

Mick and Linda Petty were in Jacksonville Friday night to watch their granddaughter, Reagan Humphrey, play in the Sulphur Springs High School playoff game against Bryan-Rudders. Linda reports, “They didn't win, but played a great game, so their season is over until next year.”

Janie and Von Prahl, Mary Helen Foster and Joyce Dodd visited Helen Weir on Sunday afternoon. On Tuesday, Helen had a visit from her sister, Rosemary Horn.

Tommy and Patti Wiebold took full advantage of the beautiful weather on Saturday and did a lot of things outside the house. On Saturday afternoon, Tommy and Patti traveled to Martins Mill, outside of Canton, to attend the birthday party of their friend Rod Taylor. The party was held outside. Dinner included a crawfish boil, brisket, chicken, sausage and all the sides. They said the food was delicious. They had music and dancing in the horse barn, which had been decorated inside for the party, with sawdust on the floor, which was great for two-stepping. Tommy and Patti returned to their home on Saturday night. Sunday was another nice day, although a bit on the cloudy side. Patti traveled to Rockwall to pick up the newest addition to their family of four-legged friends. Tommy bought her a new chocolate Labrador puppy that Patti has named "Maggie Mae,” and calls her Maggie. Maggie will begin training for duck hunting when she turns 6 months old. Tommy and Patti will train her themselves as they have trained other dogs in the past. Patti reports that Maggie has been a great joy since she got her, and she seems to be a very smart little girl, and except for one night has slept all through the night by herself in her kennel. Patti says, “Sandi Wester has been coming over during the weekdays to check in on little Maggie to let her go outside and get some exercise.”

Chip Vaughn celebrated his birthday on Tuesday. His celebration actually started on Sunday with a home-cooked meal with his family — Tiffany, Malcolm, Landon, Morgan, Kenden and Jaidyn Joslin, Grace Vaughn and me. Grace and I met him at San Remo Restaurant in Sulphur Springs for lunch on his birthday. He also enjoyed birthday cake with his co-workers. He appreciated all the cards, e-mails, Facebook messages and phone calls from friends and family.
