The Tira City Council met at the community center on Tuesday evening. Floyd Payton took the oath of office as the new mayor of Tira and Janie Lewis and Joyce Dodd were sworn in as council members. John Hadley was presented a clock in appreciation of his years of service as the mayor of Tira, and John presented a gavel to Floyd. We want to express our appreciation to John and Dorothy for their dedication to our community and hope that they will be able to continue participating in our activities. The next regular quarterly council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 1.

Tira News May 27, 2009

Mark you calendars for the Tira Homecoming, which is scheduled for Sunday, July 5. A program and business meeting will be held in the Tira Methodist Church at 11 a.m., followed by a covered dish lunch at the picnic tables on the grounds. Contributions to the perpetual fund for the upkeep of the cemetery are welcome and may be given on that day or may be mailed to the Tira Cemetery Association, c/o Floyd Payton, 1601 CR 4612, Sulphur Springs, TX 75482.

The North Hopkins Cemetery Association’s annual Memorial Day meeting will be held at the cemetery chapel at 11 a.m. this Sunday, May 24. John Long will be the speaker and Tom Glosup will provide special music.

Robert, Yvonne, Wesley, and Helen Weir and Alice Hall met Mike, Dacy and Elise Campbell, Destri Main and Dustin Weir for a late lunch in Greenville on Mother’s Day. Dustin spent Sunday and Monday night with his folks. On Saturday Yvonne attended a birthday party for her friend, Pat Williams, in the Harmony community.
