TIRA NEWS Dec. 9, 2016

Please be in prayer for the family of Joyce Oetting; her husband, Ed Oetting; daughters Annette Loper and Tina Gardner from our community; and sons Michael Wilson, Eric Wilson and Dean Oetting and their families. Visitation is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Birthright Baptist Church on Friday, Dec. 9, with a memorial service to follow. 

The Tira City Council meeting was held at the on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Yvonne Weir was sworn in as a new council member. Incumbents Tami Joslin and Sherry Smiddy also took the oath of office for another term. They discussed community center and volunteer fire department business. Following the meeting, the members and guests decorated the Community Center for the community Christmas party, which is this Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Community Center, beginning at 6 p.m Brisket will be provided. Bring a side dish or dessert and come visit with neighbors. Following the meal, there will be a brief Christmas program, and then Santa Claus will be stopping by to visit with the kids. We are also collecting canned goods, preferably gallon-sized, for the Meal-A-Day program in Sulphur Springs.

Wesley Weir and his family enjoyed the My Heroes Bowling Team Christmas party at the Tira Community Center on Sunday afternoon. Robert Weir reported that about 40 bowlers and family members attended the event.

Yvonne Weir reports, “Weekend visitors at the Weir home were Shana Parkinson and her sons, Caleb and Aaron, as well as Sarah Therault and Lucas.” On Saturday, Shanna and the boys and the Weirs went to the lighted parade and activities on the square. On Saturday, they bowled and Dakota, Sarah and Lucas went to see the Christmas lights in Paris.

Yvonne went to visit her daughter, Destri, and her family on Wednesday. Yvonne and Destri went to the Dallas Arboretum's 12 Days of Christmas exhibit that evening.

The Freeman Parish Tournament is going on this weekend, Dec. 8-10, at the North Hopkins school gym. The elementary students will present a Christmas program on Wednesday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. Also, on the North Hopkins calendar are the Beta winter coat drive, going on through Dec. 15, and their Facebook cake auction Dec. 15-16. Your support of the school activities is always appreciated.

Chip and I spent Friday and Saturday with Chip's sister, Linda Ellen Vaughn, in Dallas. Linda fed us well, while Chip did some home repairs for her and I mended some of her clothes. On the way back, we went to Point and visited with Natali Lawson. On Tuesday evening, Chip and I attended a Christmas party at Roma's Italian Restaurant in Sulphur Springs, for the nursery workers at First Baptist Church and their spouses. Chip enjoys keeping the toddlers each week.

TIRA NEWS Nov. 4, 2016

Matthew Dodd celebrated his eighth birthday with a Halloween themed party and a haunted woods hayride on Saturday night, Oct. 29. He had a large crowd of friends and family to join in the fun, food, and activities. His grandmother, Joyce Dodd, reports, “The decorations were fun and festive, with lots of ghosts, goblins and spooky music. The adults had as much or more fun than the kids.”

Jaidyn Joslin and her cousin, Elisabeth Yager, celebrated their eighth birthdays together, at Elisabeth's home, on Saturday, Oct. 15. They were both born Oct. 9, 2008. Guests enjoyed lots of fun and games and treats!

Wesley Weir enjoyed “My Heroes” bowling on Saturday. He went to the Fall Carnival in Cooper that night and had a great time!

The North Hopkins volleyball team just finished a great season and the basketball teams are gearing up for hoop action, which begins this month. Go Panthers!

North Hopkins Little Dribblers registration is going on this month. There will be a Little Dribblers meeting on Nov. 28 in the old gym at North Hopkins School. See the school website for the registration form and more information.

North Hopkins Parent-Teacher Organization will have a meeting on Nov. 10 at 6 p.m.

Tiffany Vaughn and I enjoyed a “girls day out,” shopping in Rockwall last Saturday.

Be sure to mark your calendar for the Tira Community Christmas Party, which is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 10, at 6 p.m. Brisket will be provided and residents will bring side dishes and desserts to share. A brief Christmas program will follow the meal. We are, also, expecting Santa to stop by and visit with the kids. Make plans to come spend some time with your neighbors.

TIRA NEWS Oct. 28, 2016

The North Hopkins Fall Carnival is being held at the school tonight, Oct. 28, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Prior to and during the fun and games, the Beta Club will be serving burgers and pizza, beginning at 5 p.m.

Congratulations to Kim Beck for winning the Best in Show and Reserve Best in Show for Photography in the Hopkins County Fall Festival!

Wesley Weir, Maria Gonzalez, and Robert and Yvonne Weir went to Reunion Tower on Saturday, and then to Shenaniganz in Rockwall to celebrate Wesley's 16th birthday. Yvonne reports that everyone had a good time.

Tiffany Vaughn, Kenden and Jaidyn Joslin, and Chip and I went to Louisiana Tech University in Ruston, La., on Wednesday. Morgan Joslin received a Reserve Officer Training Corps scholarship and was in a ceremony to contract with the Air Force, which is what he will be doing after finishing his college education.

TIRA NEWS Sept. 30, 2016

Robert and Yvonne Weir took Robert's sisters, Mary Helen Atwood and Joyce Dodd, out to lunch at Chili's for their joint birthdays on Sept. 19. They enjoyed a delicious lunch and the birthday girls were treated to ice cream.

TIRA NEWS Sep. 23, 2016

Wesley Weir played Bright Star baseball Monday night. Yvonne Weir visited her grandson, Nicolaas, (Destri's son) in Wednesday in Dallas. On the way home she visited Elise and Eli (Dacy's children) in Caddo Mills. Yvonne also shared, “Wesley and Robert attended the carnival Wednesday night. Wesley had a wonderful time.”
